The fire crackled, its heat pressing against her skin like a thousand knives.
She staggered backward, choking on smoke, her once-elegant wedding gown now in tatters. Shadows danced across the walls, and among them, the faces she thought she could trust.
“Why… why are you doing this?” she whispered, her voice breaking.
Her husband stepped forward, tall and cold, his features carved in stone. The man she had once loved—the man she had given everything for—stared at her with eyes that carried no trace of warmth.
“You were never meant to be my wife,” he said flatly, his tone sharper than any blade. “You were just a placeholder. A tool.”
Her chest tightened. She shook her head, desperate, refusing to believe the words. “A tool? I gave up everything for you!”
Behind him, her family stood silently, their expressions twisted with contempt. The very people who had raised her, smiled at her, called her daughter. Their silence was worse than a thousand accusations.
Betrayal. It was thicker than the smoke choking her lungs.
Tears blurred her vision, but rage began to burn hotter than the fire itself. “You’ll regret this,” she hissed, her voice trembling with both fear and fury.
Her husband smirked, the corners of his lips cruelly curved. “Regret? No. You’ll be forgotten by tomorrow.”
The flames surged higher, devouring everything in their path. Her body trembled, weakening, but her spirit refused to break. Even as the heat clawed at her skin, even as the smoke filled her lungs, she carved her final vow deep into her soul.
If there is a next life… I will not forgive. Not a single one of you.
Her vision dimmed. The fire roared, swallowing her last breath.
Silence.
Then—air. Sweet, cool air.
Her eyes shot open. She gasped, clutching her chest. The smoke was gone. The pain was gone. The fire, the betrayal, the death—all gone.
She blinked rapidly. Small hands. Soft skin. She stared at her palms in disbelief.
“This… this isn’t my body.”
The room around her was familiar. Childhood. The wooden desk she once studied at. The curtains her mother had sewn years ago.
Her heart pounded. She stumbled to the mirror across the room, gripping its edges as if it would vanish if she let go.
A young girl stared back at her. Her face—rounder, untouched by years of suffering. Innocent. Fragile.
But her eyes… her eyes held the fury of a woman who had burned to death.
“I… I’ve gone back?” she whispered, tears spilling down her cheeks. “Back to my childhood?”
Memories flooded her mind—her death in flames, the betrayal of her husband, the cruel smirks of her family. It all felt distant and yet unbearably raw.
Her lips pressed into a thin line. Slowly, deliberately, she clenched her fists.
“I will not waste this chance,” she murmured, her voice steady despite the storm in her chest. “This time, I will not be weak. This time, I will not trust blindly.”
The girl in the mirror did not look innocent anymore.
“This time,” she vowed, her voice like steel, “I will make them all pay.”
The sound of her vow lingered in the air, heavy and unshakable.
The genius bride had been reborn. And this time, her enemies would burn.
