Proverbs 22:29 — "Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men."

Influence is not seized in a moment — it is earned across a thousand quiet repetitions. The person the world eventually stops to listen to is the one who never stopped showing up.

Reflection

We have established that authority begins with confidence built on results, and that confidence must be given a voice through words spoken with conviction. Today we explore the third dimension of operating in authority: Influence — and specifically, how consistency is the engine that builds it.

There is a dangerous myth circulating in the age of viral moments and overnight success — the idea that influence is something that happens to you suddenly, like lightning striking. But the Scripture tells a different story. Proverbs 22:29 does not say "Do you see a man who got lucky?" or "Do you see a man who went viral?" It says, "Do you see a man skilled in his work?" The Hebrew word for skilled here — mahir — carries the meaning of one who is prompt, diligent, and ready. It is the language of someone who has shown up, again and again, until excellence became their signature.

This is the person who stands before kings. Not the most talented. Not the most gifted. Not even the most anointed in the raw sense — but the one whose consistency has compounded their capacity to the point where they cannot be overlooked.

From first principles, influence is simply repeated exposure to something trustworthy. When people see you show up the same way — with the same excellence, the same integrity, the same spirit — over an extended period of time, something shifts in how they regard you. You move from being someone they know to someone they trust. And trust is the currency of true influence. You cannot manufacture it with a single impressive moment. You can only build it brick by brick, day by day, through the unglamorous work of being consistently excellent.

Consider water and stone. A single drop of water on a rock accomplishes nothing visible. But the same drop, falling in the same place, every day, for years — carves a canyon. This is the physics of influence through consistency. Your daily output may seem small. Your audience today may seem limited. Your platform may feel invisible. But if what you are releasing is real, and you release it faithfully, the accumulation will eventually produce an impression that cannot be ignored.

This is also why the enemy works so hard to interrupt your consistency. He understands compound influence better than most believers do. He knows that if he can keep you starting and stopping, shifting and pivoting, he can prevent the accumulation from ever reaching critical mass. The interruption does not need to be dramatic — a week off here, a distraction there, a discouragement that costs you a month — and the compounding resets. Stay the course.

Authority through influence also carries a relational dimension. People do not follow positions permanently — they follow persons. And the person they follow longest is the one who has proven, through consistency, that they are who they say they are. Your consistency is not just building a platform. It is building a person — the kind of leader whose presence carries weight because their private life matches their public voice, and their public voice has been saying the same thing, faithfully, for long enough that the world has taken notice.

In this week of Operating in Authority, recognize that influence is already accumulating — whether positively or negatively. Every day you show up is a deposit. Every day you disappear is a withdrawal. The question is not whether you are building influence. The question is whether the account is growing.

Prayer

Father, I thank You that You are not building me for a moment but for a movement. Forgive me for the times I have allowed inconsistency to reset my compounding influence. Today I recommit to the long obedience — the faithful, excellent, daily showing up that builds the kind of authority kings and nations recognize. Let my consistency become my credibility. Let my diligence become my platform. I declare that I am a mahir — skilled, prompt, and ready — and I will stand before great men because I refused to abandon my post. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  2. Find Your Water-on-Stone Moment: Think about someone in your life or field whose influence you deeply respect. Research or reflect on how long they were consistent before their influence became widely recognized. Let their timeline recalibrate your impatience.
  3. Protect the Streak: Starting today, track your consistency in your chosen area for the next 30 days. Use a simple calendar or journal. Every day you show up, mark it. Guard the streak as a spiritual discipline — because it is one.

Viral is borrowed.

Consistent is owned.

The moment fades.

The track record remains.

Stop chasing the lightning strike

and become the river —

steady, deep, and impossible to ignore.

The kings are coming.

But first, you must be found faithful

in the place where no one is watching.
