Did you know that Jacob was buried with Leah, not Rachel?
Despite his deep love for Rachel, whom he worked fourteen years to marry.
Genesis 49:29–31, "as Jacob approached death, he gave a clear instruction: to be buried in the ancestral cave where Abraham and Sarah were laid, where Isaac and Rebekah rested and where he had buried Leah."
Selah! Pause and think about that.
Rachel held his affection, Leah held his alignment.
Rachel was the love story, Leah was the covenant story.
Rachel had his heart, Leah carried the promise.
Rachel was buried along the road (Genesis 35:19), Leah was placed in the lineage of covenant, the ongoing story of God’s dealings with His people.
And here’s the deeper truth: Jacob didn’t initially choose Leah, he just endured but heaven chose her. From Leah came Judah and from Judah came Jesus Christ.
Let that sink in: The woman overlooked by man became central to God’s redemptive plan. This is where many people get it wrong, we all want to be “Rachel”: admired, chosen, celebrated. But God often builds through “Leah seasons”: hidden places, difficult processes, quiet obedience.
Jacob’s final choice wasn’t driven by emotion. It was rooted in spiritual alignment. At the end of his life, he didn’t choose based on love, he chose based on covenant. And that reflects a deeper truth:
God doesn’t build His purposes on human preference. He builds on grace and divine choice.
So if you feel overlooked, if you feel like an afterthought… if life hasn’t picked you first, hear this:
God’s choice outweighs man’s rejection. You may not be preferred by people but you can be positioned by God.
And when God positions someone, history is rewritten. Because in His hands, the rejected become vessels, the unseen become pillars and the overlooked gain eternal significance.
If you’re in a “Leah season,” you’re not being sidelined, you’re being prepared for something far greater.
