FAITH SERIES

Sometimes, God’s will doesn’t arrive wrapped in comfort or clarity. It can feel like absence, unanswered prayers or seasons that stretch our patience to the breaking point. Yet, true faith isn’t about pretending the pain is easy, it’s about bringing that ache to God rather than running from it. God’s plan is not a distant, indifferent blueprint written in the sky. It is an unfolding of love, sometimes hidden, sometimes delayed but never absent or careless. Even when life seems to move in the opposite direction of our hopes, faith allows us to say “I may not see the whole picture but I believe the One who paints it.”

Faith is often described as believing without seeing. It frequently challenges our understanding, tests our patience and calls us to trust when answers seem absent. One of the most powerful biblical examples of faith beyond understanding is found in the life of Abraham, the father of faith.

The Call to Faith amidst Uncertainty

Abraham’s story begins with a divine call to leave everything familiar to step into the unknown. God told Abraham to leave his homeland and family for a new land that He would show him (Genesis 12:1-4). This wasn’t just a physical relocation; it was a profound act of faith, asking Abraham to trust a promise without clear evidence. Imagine the weight of this command: abandoning security, stepping into uncertainty and trusting a promise that seemed almost impossible. Abraham didn’t fully understand where he was going or how the promise would unfold, but he chose obedience.

Faith in the Face of Delay

God promised Abraham descendants as numerous as the stars, yet he and his wife Sarah remained childless for decades. The delay was agonizing, testing Abraham’s faith. Hebrews 11:11 highlights Abraham’s unwavering belief: “By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age. Here, faith is not certainty, it is a trust that sustains through waiting.

The pinnacle of Abraham’s test came when God asked him to sacrifice his son Isaac, the very promise’s fulfillment. This command defies understanding; why ask for the thing He promised to be given? Abraham’s response was not flawless, but he clung to God’s goodness, believing that even in this moment, God’s plan was trustworthy.
