Haggai 2:9 – “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts…”
Isaiah 60:1 – “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.”
Psalm 3:3 – “But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.”
Israel had been oppressed for eight long years by the king of Mesopotamia. That land represented their past — the same region where Abraham once came from before God called him out.
When Israel sinned, their past caught up with them. The land of their old bondage became the hand of their new oppressor.
But when they cried unto God, Othniel, the first judge of Israel, arose. His name means “Lion of God”, and he came from the tribe of Judah — the same lineage from which Jesus, the Lion of Judah, would come.
When the Spirit of the Lord came upon Othniel, everything changed. The oppressor that ruled them for eight years was overthrown, and Israel entered into forty years of rest — a prophetic picture of latter glory after long affliction.
Now watch this: 40 divided by 8 equals 5 — and 5 is the number of grace.
That means the rest Israel enjoyed was five times longer than the years they suffered. Grace multiplied their peace beyond their pain.
This is what Jesus, the true Lion of Judah, does: He doesn’t just deliver you; He gives you rest in divine proportion. For every year of shame, He gives multiplied years of glory.
Just like Israel, your “Mesopotamia” — that old addiction, fear, or failure — may try to revisit you.
But when the Lion of Judah steps in, your past loses its grip.
2 Corinthians 5:17 declares: “Old things are passed away…” — not adjusted, not managed — passed away.
It was not Othniel’s strength that brought victory, but the Spirit of the Lord.
Likewise, every true change in a believer’s life happens when the Spirit of Christ rests upon us.
You can’t conquer sin by self-discipline alone; you conquer by yielding to the Spirit.
Israel didn’t just escape the enemy — they entered forty years of peace.
Christ doesn’t only deliver; He restores, establishes, and gives rest.
That’s the difference between escape and redemption.
When the Lion of Judah roars, everything that oppressed you must bow.
The number 40 represents divine completion and new beginning.
After 8 years of oppression came 40 years of rest — five times grace!
That’s what Jesus brings: Grace upon grace (John 1:16).
Your latter glory will not just recover what was lost; it will overflow beyond measure.
Father, I thank You because the Lion of Judah fights my battles. Let Your Spirit come upon me for deliverance. Multiply my years of rest above my years of pain. Turn my past into a testimony of grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The Lion of Judah roars over my life. My past is broken. My future is bright. My latter glory will be five times greater. Grace rules over my story!
Spend 3 minutes declaring: “The Lion of Judah roars! My oppression is over! My rest begins! My latter glory shines brighter!”
Say it until your spirit receives it.
