DAY 17 — DEALING WITH DEBT: RELEASING YOUR FUTURE FROM YOUR PAST BILLS

Scriptures:

  • Deuteronomy 28:12“The LORD shall open unto thee His good treasure… and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.”

  • Proverbs 22:7“The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”

  • Romans 13:8“Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.”

Reflection:

Debt is more than a financial burden—it is a spiritual weight that steals peace, limits destiny, and can subtly keep believers in bondage. Many borrowers discover a hidden pattern: even when they repay, the spirit of borrowing urges them back into loans, interest, and obligations.

We borrow from banks, cooperatives, friends, microfinance institutions, and online lenders, often paying more than we received. Mortgaging houses, cars, and other long-term loans can last a lifetime without God’s intervention. Many have seen their dreams crushed, relationships strained, and even homes lost due to unpaid loans. Some are trapped for decades, facing mental stress, foreclosure, or homelessness. This is why Proverbs 22:7 warns, “The borrower is servant to the lender.”

Yet, God calls His children to financial freedom. Imagine a life without debt, where your hands are free to sow, invest, and bless without bondage. Jesus Christ has already paid the greatest debt—the debt of sin. If He has made provision for you, why should you remain enslaved to financial obligations?

As the song reminds us:
"He paid my debt, He did not owe, I owe a debt I could not pay… Amazing grace, amazing grace, Christ Jesus paid a debt I could never pay."

Debt is not just a money issue—it is a spiritual issue. To be free, you must:

  1. Recognize the spiritual influence behind borrowing.

  2. Resolve to repay what you owe responsibly.

  3. Declare freedom and trust God to provide all you need.

For practical guidance, consider books like:

When you step into this freedom, your future is released from past limitations, and your latter glory in provision, peace, and abundance can flow unhindered.

Prayer:

Father, I thank You because Jesus has already paid my debt. Break every chain of financial bondage over my life. Deliver me from the spirit of borrowing that wants to enslave me. Free me from loans, mortgages, and obligations that have weighed me down. Grant me wisdom, favor, and discipline to manage my finances according to Your Word. Position me as a lender, not a borrower. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Declaration:

  • I am free from all financial bondage.

  • The spirit of borrowing and long-term debt has no hold over me.

  • My past debts are cancelled; my future is blessed.

  • I lend, I prosper, I bless.

  • My latter glory includes financial peace, provision, and abundance.
