When Faith Meets Fasting — Deliverance Follows

📖 Scripture Reading (NKJV):

“So Jesus said to them, ‘Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” — Matthew 17:20–21

“Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?” — Isaiah 58:6

Reflection

After the Mount of Transfiguration, a desperate father approached Jesus saying his son was “a lunatic” — tormented by unseen forces that caused self-harm and uncontrollable behavior (Matthew 17:14–18). He had already tried the disciples, but they couldn’t help him.

Jesus diagnosed the problem in one sentence:

“Because of your unbelief… this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

There are levels of bondage that motivation cannot break, counseling cannot solve, and ordinary prayer cannot handle — only faith combined with fasting can enforce deliverance.

In our world today, many battle invisible oppressions:

  • Spirit of addiction that overrides willpower
  • Spirit of anger that destroys relationships uncontrollably
  • Spirit of depression and suicide that whispers hopelessness
  • Spirit of lust that drives one against their own values
  • Spirit of misbehavior — doing things you later regret, yet can’t explain why

These are not just habits — they are strongholds.

To walk in freedom and dominion, you must engage the covenant weapons of faith, prayer, and fasting. Not starving without purpose — but fasting with the Word and intentional prayer.

Fasting weakens the flesh. Prayer strengthens the spirit. Faith activates the power.

When faith and fasting collide, bondages break, clarity comes, and dominion is restored.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I receive grace to rise in faith and discipline in fasting and prayer. Every stronghold resisting my freedom — be broken in Your name. Deliver me from every unseen oppression and make me a vessel of deliverance to others. Amen.

Declaration

  • I refuse to be ruled by unseen forces — I walk in dominion!
  • Every yoke of bondage is broken by the power of Christ.
  • I am disciplined in prayer and fasting — and I see results.
  • What stopped others will not stop me — I am delivered to deliver!

Your Spirit Challenge

Choose one area of your life needing breakthrough and fast for at least one meal today or tomorrow. During that time, replace eating with praying and reading Matthew 17 & Isaiah 58. Call the stronghold by name and command it to break in Jesus’ name.
